Pros

Depending on the department and manager/director, Verizon can be a great place to work. If you are an ambitious and talented individual, you will be given challenging projects and opportunities for growth. Telecommuting is permitted and there is some flexibility in scheduling.

Cons

Given challenges faced in the telecommunications industry, particularly rapid line loss on the Telecom side, there have been multiple involuntary reductions in force per year. Morale has been extremely low, and with fewer people to carry the same amount of work, employees are working day and night with little appreciation. It is a frustrating situation, and the culture is changing to a work-oriented, no family matters place. Most organizations are completely focused on just getting the job done, no matter how much time it takes from people's lives. Moreover, the senior leadership team doesn't have the direction and guidance to motivate the employees. Telecom Finance is a dismal place to work right now with the constant layoffs. Regional Marketing isn't much better either.

Pros

The company phone and discount on your personal cell account. They do give you training before you start working in the store, although it is very basic sales and if you have been in any basic business college courses you will be bored to tears by the end of the week. Like all big companies they spend a great deal of money on training their employees even if they realize that they will be gone in 6 months. If you like dealing with people on a daily basis then this is a good position for you but it may also make you somewhat burnt out when it comes to dealing with the public.

Cons

Hours, high turnover, ethical issues, shady salespeople. The company is run to make money and they seem to keep getting more greedy and care less and less for their employees. If you work hard and beat your quota they will just raise your quota the next month, then if you have a lean month they will write you up for not hitting your numbers. The company is not run well in the lower levels of management and the turnover rate is very high. I was in college at the time and they had told me before I accepted the positon that they would be flexiable with my schedule, simply untrue.

Pros

Great benefits and opportunity to learn telecom industry. Even going through many evolutions of the company through mergers and acquisitions, there seemed to be a place for me for many years. The company is solid and offers some excellent products and services that make it easy to get excited about. I like being proud of my employer and always felt like I could get behind the marketing intiatives I supported.

Cons

The normal big corporate bureaucracy type stuff. There are many cumbersome processes that I'm sure could be streamlined, but so many higher level managers and executives have been around a long time and might be a little resistant to change.
