Pros

it's a paycheck and they supply the training

Cons

Not a lot of opportunity for advancement. You have reps, then sups, then associate director, then director, Vice pres, then President. Not many associate directors so you normally are a rep or supervisor, then that's it. There is a lot of "lateral" movement available lol.

Pros

Excellent compensation, industry leading 401k matching contributions (matches dollar-to-dollar till 6% of salary, or even 9% depending on performance of the unit), excellent place for working moms to have perfect balance of office & personal life, unparalleled support to employees who are into voluntary activities through Verizon's Voluntary Incentive Programs and Matching Incentive Programs.

Cons

I'm into IT and think offshoring might a threat down the line

Pros

I have worked for GTE/Verizon for over thirty years. I have seen it and the telecommunications go through many changes. There are many caring people in craft and management. Verizon has given me many wonderful benefits, good health care, a scholarship for my child, many helpful community services. I believe Verizon is respectable corporation. Great products and good name recognition.

Cons

From my perspective, the competition has forced Verizon to downsize, especially management therefore, there seems to be large gaps in communication on all levels. We have a large escrow account to draw from, it would be in the best interest of the company to offer a reasonable buy-out to clear the company of a lot of 'deadwood' in craft and management. Build new middle managers to communicate more effectively on all levels. Zig Ziglar once said "help enough people get what they want, and you will get what you want." Make the employee valuable once again, I cannot answer for others, but I work hard everyday, I earn my pay everyday. The company can no longer turn it's back on the empoylee who do not do their jobs, deal with people who make my job harder because they do not do theirs. I may not hear from my supervisor for days because he is so overwhelmed. It worth it to go out of the way for those who do their jobs. Verizon is a good company it can be the best.
