Excellent pay, no work/life balance for managers

Pros

Excellent salary and benefits. Amazing tuition reimbursement plan. They paid for my bachelor's and master's degrees. I was very lucky to have worked for the company for over 20 years.

Cons

Verizon claims they have an excellent work/life balance which is false. If you are management your job is never safe.If you take maternity leave, expect to be punished when you return. I never had children, but many of my female co-workers who did were treated unfairly when they returned. Some even lost their jobs.

Pros

No Pros anymore. All pros have become cons now. I may have given 4 stars and job security and work life balance as pros if 12th of December 2017 was just another professional day.

Cons

Today, the 12th of December 2017 was horrific and unexpected as Verizon arranged bouncers and hired 3rd party HR consultants to send deserving and recently awarded people home in an inhumane way. The salary here is already peanuts and people only choose to work here for the challenging and ever learning job and work-life balance but these two pros have also highly disappointed us today after seeing some of our deserving colleagues forced and threatened to leave the organization with no notice at all(immediate exit by having bouncers surrounding the employee until he surrenders his ID card and leaves the company). Everyone of us went for work just like any other day but were surprised to see 100s of security folks and bouncers from 9 AM onwards. Employees chosen as part of the RIF were called and asked to quit the organization and exit the facility within 20 mins which if not done would have led to mistreatment by the bouncers and the security. The HRs were hired from a consultancy. Not the Organization's own HRs, in order to avoid questions. It was really hard to see my deserving and very talented and recently promoted colleagues leave with a heavy heart and tears and have their dreams and aspirations shattered. Meanwhile, few non-deserving employees who only read news and Sleep and go for breaks as a daily routine were still continuing to do the same. The management is so much infected by dirty politics and all we can see is that Verizon is heading towards a major disaster with all the talented folks being forced to quit in an inhumane manner but the folks who know nothing about the technology or the work they are part of still continue to survive by caressing their managers in unethical ways. This has motivated all the remaining deserving candidates to quit VZ soon which ensures that the Organization is only left with people who have no knowledge about the work they are supposed to do but never do.

Pros

Working for Verizon Wireless was great for the first 5 years. The company really took care of their employees for benefits. The job can be incredibly stressful but you are payed well for what you do. We received bonus payouts each year based on performance as well. This was great because they paid them around same time as tax returns and this meant you could get yourself something nice each year as a kind of reward for your hard work. Overall the company afforded me a house and a bike and furnishings for inside. I would take the position again in an instant. I would however attempt to get off the phones much earlier on in my career.

Cons

The customers control how you do your job. You are put on warning based on how you are surveyed. The customers receive a survey after calling in and if your not having a good month of surveys it can cause you issues down the road. I can say I never had any problems with the surveys personally but I saw a few of my friends become sick over the system. Due to the stress of the job about 50% of my fellow employees were all on some form of medication and or going to a doctor for FMLA leave due to the stress. I worked with the company for 10 years and it has taken a toll on my body as well. Sitting all day everyday is a good way to put on weight. Your performance is based on how many calls per day you take and your adherence to your signed in and out times along with the surveys. Customers that are usually happy do not call in as much. Mostly irate or irrational customers call in.
