Pros

- Well-defined career path for many areas within IT (Programming, team management, project management, business analysis, etc). - Ability to be promoted regularly and progress your career. - Generally thoughtful management that cares about seeing you succeed on your career path. - Ever-improving work life balance. One of Walmart's 3 basic beliefs is "Respect for the Individual" and they do a good job of following it. - Ability to contribute to meaningful projects. Where else can you work on projects that impact 100 million+ people in 4000+ stores in over a dozen different countries? - Compensation is great relative to cost of living. Very generous yearly bonuses for salaried employees. - Cost of living is fantastic in Northwest Arkansas. Expect to be able to buy a home even straight out of college. Possible to support a family even if only one spouse works. - 10% employee discount (excludes groceries). - Stable employment. Walmart rarely lays off a large number of employees. The company does well in good and bad economies alike and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future.

Cons

- Walmart is founded on the principle of Everyday Low Prices. This means Walmart is a no-frills company. Don't expect a ton of free perks, celebrations, free meals/food or company-paid activities. - Chances are that Northwest Arkansas is probably not near your friends or family. - Health insurance plan is catastrophic. It is not the worst in the world, but certainly not the best.

Pros

Great people to work with on the floor Love the discount on clothing

Cons

1. Asst Managers who do not ensure training and then coming down on the Associates for not knowing their job. 2. Intimidation from Asst Managers when you are on alone in 4- 7 Depts. 3. Lack of floor staff 4. "Transfers" that you do not ask for 5. Lack of communication 6. Asst Managers being less than truthful 7. Open Door policy looks good on paper but is not practiced 8. Expecting too much from one person- no one person can do the work of 6!

Pros

It is easy to move your way up the ladder. I started out as a cashier and got promoted 4 times. It is very fast passed so you dont have to worry about having nothing to do no matter where you work. For the most part it does have the feeling of family there. If I were to find another job or in previous jobs i have never had a feeling that everybody I work with is family which is really weird to say. Wal-Mart is deffinetly a place to earn experience to put on an application that looks good.

Cons

Getting time off is tough. Requesting it in 3 weeks in advance is ridiculous and good luck ever getting a holiday off. Managment there has no communication, one manager says do this so you do it and another manager say do this when your already filled up with tasks to last you all night, when you explain your day is full they frown upon you and when all work isn't completed because overtime is completely unexcepatable they get upset. Taking on somebody elses tasks is a very common thing yet they expect you to complete all your work as well. They seem to promote alot of worthless people. The company gets worse and worse day by day. Everything about the company seems very unexceptable for a workplace. The pay is okay but not worth the stress supervisors get on the job. Salaried managers are almost as worthless as most of the supervisors they guinea pig around to tell other supervisors and associates what to do, There are so many supervisors and associates you don't no who to follow and you cant satisfy everybody. Their timelines to get work done are completely outragous. Most people you ask that work at walmart will tell you they are looking for a different job. Once you start, it is fine, once you are with the company for a year or more you realize what a craphole the place really is. Their benefits are not that great at all and are expenisve as hell. When a position is taken, when you get promoted for instance, it is pretty much here's your job do it. Getting trained in a new position never happends you have to predy much learn on your own. The testing required is ridiculous for wal-mart. I wouldnt recommend this place to anybody unless I hated them.
