Pros

Wood Mackenzie is the perfect place to work and develop your career in the Energy sector. People are committed, professional, always approachable and the analysts are the best subject-matter experts of the industry. It’s absolutely rewarding to work for a company that clients regard as the most reliable and renowned in gaining commercial intelligence of the energy world. All colleagues are great and there is an incredible team spirit across the regions. The overall vision is sometimes difficult to grasp from the Sales Team but I can clearly perceive that there is a strong willingness to continuously improve our services, strive for excellence and deliver the best-in-class products to clients. Working in the Sales Team in London is excellent. There are a lot of initiatives organised by the social committee or the wellness team which make the atmosphere enjoyable and fun. To be successful, however, you should be passionate about the energy market, a quick learner and ready to acquire product knowledge in a short time (the learning curve to understand the products may be quite steep in the first months). The workload can become very heavy at times. The company always promotes a mentality of continuous learning, supporting (and sometimes subsidising) on-line courses on a great variety of topics. It offers good career opportunities, a very competitive benefits package (pension, health & dental care are well above average) and flexible working hours.

Cons

It would be great if HR (which is composed of fantastic people!) could get more support from the higher management in order to put in place an efficient talent management system across the business with clearer career paths for all employees and help line managers coach and develop their team members.

Pros

Positive culture, global company, a team of highly intelligent but also humble people, excellent benefits, work/life balance, nice amenities in the office building, and 25 days of PTO for all employees. Overall, this is a great place to work.

Cons

When interviewing, I was concerned about the Verisk acquisition and Wood Mackenzie's stability during the recent downturn. I have since learned that most all of the challenges that came from being bought by Verisk were fairly minor and only felt for a short time. There were several positives as well (new systems, larger reach, more stability), and profit margins remained strong during the downturn.
