Pros

Great benefits. Great health care (like really great. Even doctors office will go "this is excellent health insurance"). Strong belief in work/life balance. Flexibility. Great people.

Cons

Old systems that break and crash. A lot of talk about change, but when it happens its still greatly behind the curve. No equality of value. And of course, as everyone has said it is very Edinburgh centric, which means all the resources and staff are over there. They don't put high value on other offices. They make no appoint to even hire staff that would work different shifts so other offices can be supported globally. For a global organization, they seemed to really only be focused on, and care about the people in the Scotland office.

Pros

WoodMac's research/data arm is by far THE driving force of the company, so it is better to be hired there. At WoodMac you will definitely improve your knowledge of energy fundamentals and learn to use various tools, although all of them are proprietary and give you little value if you have moved on. Work-life balance and pay are decent in research. Can be moderately stressful before the report is due. Great office location and nice colleagues overall both in research and consulting.

Cons

The consulting arm has intense workload but pays well below top firms. The saddest part is that people have learned to accept it. Little variety of project work in consulting. You will be doing market outlooks for various commodities 90% of your time. This will affect your exit opportunities if you stay for too long. WoodMac is viewed as primarily data/research company in the market. Keep this in mind if you look for consulting experience. Diversity in middle and top management can be better.

Pros

Interesting domain. Great people, no jerks allowed. Some people with great intentions.

Cons

Many silos that don't work in tandem and no one at program level qualified to standardise them by process or principle.
