Pros

Great mission, child focused, smart colleagues, passionate about our work

Cons

1- Lack of overall professional development opportunities (any PD funds has dwindled to nothing). Managers (at least on my team) had way too many people they were managing, how is managing 10 people good for employers growth? Also, little growth opportunities at the company 2- Well-being suffering due to budget cuts, less staff and letting many regional folks go, and current technical staff being required to do MORE and MORE long international travel (often 30 hours in economy class both ways). And I mean often last minute. This is very hard on life and well being in general. Trying to do more with less at the expense of employers well-being. Only being valued for how much travel you can do, and not your technical skills you were hired for.

Pros

+ Strong mission and positive organizational culture. + Very committed and hard-working people, especially in the field offices. + Programs are directly implemented in poor communities. + Integrated model allows the organization to address different dimensions of poverty (eg. health, education, economic development). + World Vision has the scale and resources (financial and technical) to make a significant difference in each country where the organization works. + Sponsorship funding encourages personal connection with individual children.

Cons

- While child sponsorship is a positive financial model (providing a long-term and fairly predictable source of funding), it is not necessarily aligned with positive development objectives. In other words, there is a financial incentive for World Vision to continue relationships with sponsors for as long as possible, but the organization should not aspire to work in and with communities for as long as possible. What results is a lack of urgency, because the organization knows it has the financial support (child sponsorship) to work in a community for 10 to 20 years. In recent years, the organization has made positive efforts to diversify funding, which impose shorter time frames, more discipline, and better documentation of outcomes. However, as long as child sponsorship remains the main source of funding, World Vision will struggle with the misalignment of financial incentives and development results. - As the organization has grown larger, it has become more bureaucratic, efficiency-driven, and compliance-oriented.
