Pros

great views, free food, fun people

Cons

the job is crazy hard. every real estate agent you call has heard of/used zillow in the past and know exactly why they don't want to try again or why they haven't tried already. it gets really old trying to talk people into a product they dont want

Thanks for giving us your feedback regarding your experience in Inside Sales at Zillow. I would say that while most agents have heard of Zillow, the vast majority of agents we call have not advertised on Zillow previously. We do face challenging objections from agents around budget and concerns about the ROI of advertising online - Fortunately, we have the top performing platform that generates more business for more real estate agents/brokers than any other, and this resonates with agents we engage. I wish you success in your next role. Doug Slotkin VP, Local Ad Sales

Growing Pains But Overall Great Place to Work

Pros

Great people, wonderful working environment. You get everything you need to get the job done. Leadership vision is strong and clearly communicated. Very transparent company. Lots of fun to be had. Benefits are solid.

Cons

Some office politics to navigate in terms of alliances and cliques that can pose hurdles to pushing ideas forward and getting buy-in for projects. Challenging ramp up as processes, knowledge, and data exists in silos across the company and are not accessible efficiently . Developer resources are limited for a company this size, so being scrappy and willing to adjust technical aspects of a project on the fly is crucial to success. Growth is at a crescendo, so company culture is in transition and hasn't regained it's footing. Additionally, as it grows, "old timers" are promoted who have little to no experience managing people. No longer a start up feel, but more a corporate environment creating new barriers to getting things done in innovative ways. Work/life balance is absolutely lip service. Young singles who put in 50/60 hour weeks are recognized often and rise quickly, while those trying to strike a more reasonable approach tread water and are viewed as ineffective.

Thanks for taking the time to review your time at Zillow. I run the Inside Sales team at Zillow and hopefully I can address your concerns for your benefit as well as others reading your review. I'm glad you took away some positives from your time at Zillow. I assume that you worked at our headquarters here in Seattle. My sense is that if you asked our team if they see themselves working in a call center, the resounding answer would be NO! With an amazing view of Puget Sound, open floor plan and delicious food provided, sales people enjoy our work environment and consistently vote for Zillow as a great place to work. We do expect people to work hard to achieve their potential and help us hit numbers. We do hold people accountable to hitting sales numbers and when struggling, we manage their activity to make sure they giving themselves a fair shot of being successful. We believe that there is a correlation between presentation volume and success, especially as you're first getting started. I was very surprised to read your comment regarding favoritism. Opportunities at Zillow are allocated based on how people perform in terms of revenue, attitude and leadership. if you have a specific example of favoritism, I would like to know about it. The same goes for sales ethics; we pride ourselves on selling the right way and customer retention on the Premier agent platform bears that out. Again, please let me know if you have specific instances of our people not acting ethically. Doug Slotkin VP, Local Ad Sales dougs@zillow.com
