I applied through college or university. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at BlackRock in Nov 2014
Interview
Applied through school career website. One week later I got an email requesting a screening interview on a website called Montage. There were 6 questions altogether, and the website video taped my answers.
Questions were 1. Why BlackRock 2. Why you chose your school/major 3. Describe a situation where you were innovative 4. A client service experience 5. What do you do to keep yourself updated with what's going on in the Financial industry 6. How does a technology firm obtain and retain competitive advantage.
Montage system was not hard to use. It shows you a list of questions (in text) upfront and you just click on each one. Once you are there, you play a video to see a video that tells you the question. After that, you find the recording window on the page(looks like a video streaming window, just remember to allow it to use your camera and microphone), and you click the play button to answer the question while being recording. Every question I answered was 3-minute long.
The Montage system has tutorials that you can watch. Make sure you get familiar with it and you have good internet connection while answering.
It seemed to me that I did not have to answer the questions immediately since it would not record the answer before I clicked the button. So I took some time to search more information before I recorded myself, but I am not sure if they keep track of the time I spent in the assessment process.
