I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Human Rights Watch (Los Angeles, CA) in Jul 2020
Interview
I had an initial half hour phone interview, then did a 2 hour skills assessment. The assessment included organizing an Excel spreadsheet, drafting tweets and Facebook posts, drafting emails, and doing research on various policies related to the office's work. I then had a panel interview with 3 people, including the person who would be my direct supervisor.

Question 1
What experiences have led me to my interest in social justice work?
I applied online. I interviewed at Human Rights Watch
Interview
A few weeks after applying I was contacted to complete an online automated video interview. The questions themselves weren't difficult they were basic questions related to the position and my previous experience. However, the automated interview wasn't ideal for me personally. Once you start the interview you can't pause or restart it and your answers are video recorded and timed. I felt panicked throughout and my answers came off as more robotic because I'm talking to a screen and a ticking clock instead of having a genuine interaction. I think a brief phone interview would have been a more effective way to screen candidates.
