I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Paychex in Jan 2010
Interview
Very professional until one on one. The person interviewing was very new with the company and didn't know a lot about the company. It felt very umprofessional.
I applied through a recruiter. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Paychex (Folsom, CA) in Aug 2008
Interview
I had a one on one interview with the sales manager. He came out about 20-30 minutes late and apologized that his meeting went over. This might have been a test to see how patient I am and how I respond to someone coming in late for a meeting. The interview was more like a conversation, so it went well. I did get offered to comeback for the "Caliber" test which was a combination of math skills and a personality test to see if this type of job would be a good fit for me and Paychex.
The women at the front desk were very nice and friendly toward me. They seem to have known each other very well, since they were talking about their social lives when the phones didn't ring and nobody else was walking through the door.
I came back4 or 5 days later to take the exam. If you are good at money math, you shouldn't have any problems with that part of the test. The test then ask personality questions. An example would be: You have to hurt someones feelings when giving them criticism. They question may have been phrased a little different. I suggest you answer all of the questions as truthful as possible. The answer they may be looking for would be yes, in my opinion. They are looking for a "warrior" type personality with thick skin. Other questions asked pertain to gregariousness, preferences speaking to larger or smaller groups/one-on-one, and so forth.
