I applied online. The process took 8 weeks. I interviewed at Shopee (Kuala Lumpur) in Oct 2021
Interview
Took about 8 weeks. Had to fill up forms to indicate availability twice but both times I was scheduled outside of the chosen slot and was even postponed. Though the HR recruiters were very nice and transparent.
Case Interviewer was impatient and condescending. Made a passive aggressive comment about one of my past experience. He was extremely impatient during the case interview and kept cutting me off before I could finish my sentences. I even had to cut him off to be able to explain my thought process.
Online assessment, HR interview.
Worst interview of my life. It was sad to see that the interviewer already had a preconceived notion of me just 5-10 minutes into the interview. He seemed to give no weight to my answers and kept hampering on the same fact in my rather complex resume, which was already an odd sign.
1 hour into the interview, I was finally given a chance to ask some questions. I asked him of his personal work experience and if he enjoyed working at Shopee. His answers were extremely unprofessional and seemed to avoid my question of his own experience working at the place (seems like a big red flag to me).
All in all, I was extremely put off by the way the interview was conducted and how condescending HR was during the process. They put the company on a seemingly unattainable pedestal, one that I no longer respect.
FYI, I have previously gone through 4 rounds of interview for Shopee’s YAP, but those interviews were fair. Albeit tough, all interviewers remained neutral and was nothing like my recent experience.
Perhaps I was unlucky in this round, so please take my review with a grain of salt. To Shopee, please reevaluate your interviewers because a high salary can only go so far. Well-respecting candidates will not put up with the terrible treatment by HR.
