Question 1
Competency based questions, some general questions about what you know of UNHCR.
I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at UNHCR (New York, NY) in Aug 2020
Interview
Honestly, I had very unpleasant experience interviewing with UNHCR. [The office I interviewed is not in NY. And I am afraid to mention the office because I am going to write very honest experience I had]
I actually applied protection internship, but they called me to confirm considering my CV to external relations - selects only 1 person. I accepted the offer and the interview was scheduled to the next day I received a call.
By the time I entered to the office, there were 5 additional candidates and we had to compete in the same place. Then they explains the situation that there were number of applicants for the Protection position, so they decided to switch some applications to external relations. Also, the interviewers seemed overwhelmed by the process, and they even sarcastically laughed while some candidates were responding.
Furthermore, they cut some of the answers in the middle that they are running out of time, and skipped some candidates to express themselves. I could see vividly how frustrated they were.
After that we continued taking writing test. When I was getting out of the office, there were group of other people waiting for the interview. At the end, they told me, there is nothing wrong about your ability, we hope your great future, and if I don't get a call until next week Tuesday, I am rejected.
I concluded that this opp. cannot come to me. When the interviewers were exhausted, not listening, not respectful and there are other group of people waiting in line. Even if I am knowledgeable in this field, it is hard for them to recognize my existence and talents.
I am still uncertain why I was invited to the interview.
The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at UNHCR (Bangui, ) in Dec 2016
