I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at US Air Force in Sep 2009
Interview
I completed the knowledge, skills, and abilities application process. There were 6 of the KSA's that had to be completed. I typed two to three pages of well thought out answers for each of the 6 topics applying my previous work skills to the required tasks.

Interview
Since I was in another location the interview was conducted over the phone. I had rehearsed the typical behavioral questions and was surprised (and a little relieved) that the interview turned out to be an informal conversation about the organization, the career field and what we didn't and did like about communications strategies within the government. We established a great rapport and I received an e-mail stating I was hired a week later. I think my resume and background had already blown the other applicants out the water so the phone interview was just a protocol -- the manager already knew they wanted to hire me.
I applied in-person. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at US Air Force in Apr 2009
Interview
Interview was easy. I already knew what the job entailed and had good qualifications. What I didn't have though was a Veteran's Administration determined physical disability. So I answered all the questions and came away from the interview very positive. Later I found out I graded out as #1 on the non-disabled veteran list. But unfortunately (for me) disabled veterans get hiring preference and there were 12 of them. So I didn't get offered a job.
