I applied through a recruiter. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at US Army
Interview
Recruiters were pretty straightforward with me. Some recruiter lie to potential recruits, but if you come in educated about what you want to do and what your current education and commitment levels are, it's a simple process. Never join for the money. Your life is highly likely to be on the line at one point or another no matter how simple of a job pick.

I applied in-person. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at US Army (Springfield, IL) in Dec 2011
Interview
Very detailed based on the job requirements; tough for someone not already in the organization. Board type interview with 3 people participating and all asking questions. Kind of nerve racking to have that many people in the room.
