I applied in-person. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at US Army (Portland, OR) in Nov 2011
Interview
It was an enlistment and I did not have to interview for any position. If you are interested in joining the army go speak with a local recruiter who will give you a list of job opportunities based on a basic intelligence test. They will work hard to get you the position you want provided you explain your interests.
I applied through a recruiter. The process took 6 months. I interviewed at US Army (Buda, TX) in Jun 2011
Interview
Extensive personality and skills testing, paperwork, medical exams, and processing at the recruiting center and the Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS). Once testing is complete, they give you a list of jobs you qualify for. Your scheduled leave date usually depends upon slots open in basic training and Advanced Individual Training (AIT) that line up. Can take anywhere from 3-18 months. Took me approximately 6 months from the first conversation face-to-face to leaving for Basic Training at Ft. Jackson, South Carolina.
