Interview
As long as you pass the ASVAB, background check and the pt test, you've almost got a guaranteed spot. Then as long as you pass basic training you will for sure have a job in the U.S. Army. It's a fairly simple process and the Army isn't too strict on letting people in. As long as you're not a criminal or using illegal substances they will be able to find a job for you.

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at US Army (Tampa, FL) in Mar 2011
Interview
Recruiter presented a presentation at my high school and laid out all of the Pros and Cons of joining the military. I then spoke to him one on one regarding the military and he answered all of my questions. Next I began the process and took the ASVAB which is easy and just gives the military a basic impression at what you would be best in. Next I went to MEPS to see if I would be physically in shape to be accepted then after passing that exam I was sworn in and given a date for basic training.
