I applied online. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at US Army in Oct 2012
Interview
USAJobs referred me to the hiring committee. My resume was reviewed by the clinic and I was called to come in for interview. I met with NCOIC of the clinic and one of the clinic doctors. We spent about 15 minutes going over the job and the expectations. I asked them to elaborate on several aspects, they did. They asked me some questions about my work history, it was very casual. We discussed what I could bring to the position they asked me what my strengths were, when I felt I could improve upon myself. I asked them a few questions, they showed me around the clinic and we concluded the interview. I received a phone call two days later with they job offer.
I applied through a recruiter. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at US Army (Atlanta, GA) in Jul 2012
Interview
There is no real interview process for the Army, you go to MEPS to see if you are qualified and that's about it. It will take your whole day to complete because there are other individuals trying to do the same as you

You will be tested at MEPS to see if you are qualified
I applied through college or university. I interviewed at US Army (Washington, DC) in Mar 2012
Interview
First there was a screening process through USA Jobs. Be sure to use the write lingo and jargon to match your experience to the duties listed in the job opening. Once you clear that hurdle, there is a sit-down with your supervisor and the Executive Officer. The interview was a substantive conversation about skills, responsibilities, reasoning, and some small talk about hometown, etc. There is of course also a component where you go through background checks to attain a security clearance.
