Pros
Good experience and development programs for graduates and other young engineers Great opportunities for engineers not interested in being engineers
Cons
The list of cons is too long to mention and one only has to read other reviews on Glassdoor to realise that this global company has serious global issues. The problems are worldwide, not unique to one single office and a reflection of the type of company AECOM is. AECOM clearly follows the Wal Mart or Home Depot model of annihilating the competition by buying every company they can and poaching employees from other consulting companies in order to achieve what it thinks is world domination. Then AECOM treats everyone like garbage thinking that their employees have limited options. The people who are appointed as managers have negligible leadership skills but as long as they can converse in management speak and lie through their teeth they will go far in AECOM. The primary role of managers is to attack and threaten any employee with low billability as if it is their own fault. There is no opportunity for employees to provide feedback on the performance of their "managers" or "leaders". No-one ever asks a lowly engineer if they are happy, valued, satisfied or appreciated because AECOM management does not care about its employees. Another issue with AECOM's endless acquisitions is that employees from different legacy companies now find themselves competing for the same work. The attitude amongst employees has changed from one of co-operation prior to being acquired by AECOM to one of desperate, deceitful and ruthless competition. AECOM is a toxic, cut throat, evil company that brings out the worst in its employees. I even had numerous books and reference documents stolen from my desk by my competitors, sorry I mean "colleagues". The managers have no integrity, honesty, decency or ethics. I am thoroughly looking forward to the day I leave AECOM which will be very soon. It will be my happiest day there. My advice to anyone contemplating joining AECOM is to do yourself a favour and find another company. My advice to anyone currently working for AECOM is to look elsewhere because, despite AECOM's best efforts and its own propaganda, there are other opportunities.
