Pros

There are still some good people left at the company that are great to work with and mentor junior staff.

Cons

Corporate management is in a different state and has little to no involvement in generating or keeping local business interests. As a result projects are drying up and good people are leaving the company in droves. Work life balance was hard and some projects keep you away from home for weeks at a time. Overall office moral is at an all time low. Little to no opportunity for advancement.

Pros

* Office location in Tanfield

Cons

* Very poor management, junior mentoring and general business direction * No culture - go to work, sit on your computer or in a meeting room for 8 hours, eat lunch at your desk, go home * Not great offices - like working in a large factory floor so very noisy and impersonal * Dismal pipeline of work for a large company - poor bidding and networking at management level * Next to no benefits - standard 1-2% pay increase per year but bonuses and pay rises happen very rarely. AECOM benefits system is very gimmicky and a standard enterprise rewards system used by big companies - eg. get 2% off groceries at Tesco or save 2% at Costa. * Next to no spending on innovation, office enhancements or employee satisfaction. * Very poor project management systems which take about 5-8 people to approve a project to go-ahead (even for a project as small as £1000). * Poor pay - below to average for the industry. * Large pay gap between junior/mid-level staff and managers. The junior/mid-level staff usually do most of the work. * Very poor office manager - rarely hear from them * High turnover of staff - you can understand why.

Pros

Very few. Mostly the relationships you can make with very interesting and talented people. Some cool projects, if you can muster enough support from management to pursue work from clients.

Cons

Clueless management and byzantine organizational structure that is always in flux. No local management with decision-making authority, even in fairly large offices (75+). No business development support (in terms of dollars and proposal help) for technical staff on the front lines who deal with clients day-to-day. Avalanches of idiotic communications from senior management. A medieval employee rating philosophy and scheme that force-fits people into a normal distribution. (But wait! I thought AECOM employs only the best.) Relentless efforts to direct-bill clients for what are actually overhead functions. This is an engineering company run by accountants and MBAs who have starry-eyed visions of glory, but who apparently run the business by sleight of hand.
