Pros

Great staff. the size of the company permits access to major government and industrial projects.

Cons

I come from the URS side. After being bought by AECOM, much has changed. No more offices and cubes. We are now all in long rows of desks with headsets like at a telephone bank. No space to spread out plans. The paperwork we need to deal with is impossible and keeps changing. The office is very high tech, but is built on a house of cards. The simplest functions now must run through a server or two.

Pros

Easy access to other disciplines (Interiors, Structural, MEP are all on the same floor; landscape is just a couple of floors down). Flexibility to work from home on occasion. Great location (next to Clarendon metro). Seems like office is starting to address some employee concerns (though in a rather ham-fisted manner) Compensation is o.k.. People at the corporate level must be enjoying their jobs or have a different outlook.

Cons

Very few senior staff and almost no younger staff members (1 to five years out of a degree). (Continues to losing senior/mentoring staff; current management isn't concerned with mentoring current staff. New leadership isn't concerned with employee satisfaction. Office has become the ugly twin sister of the DC Office (formerly URS). Office doesn't have the ability to make models in house. No cultural identity to speak of. I haven't seen anyone get promoted in 5 years. Very stingy rewards culture (bonuses are practically non-existent) Doesn't do much design. Bureaucracy make people feel like insignificant cogs. Compensation is o.k.... corporate keeps finding ways to reduce the value of our benefits without entirely removing them... I have gotten 3% raises for the last 3 years and my actual take home has dropped by 1%.

Pros

Tremendous amount of talented employees. Opportunity to work on large complex projects, within certain business lines.

Cons

Where is the leadership in this organization? All that talent is walking out the door due to poor decision making and continous outsourcing of internal resources. Lack of communication, cutting benefits and training resources, and not providing access to latest and greatest software and technology. Large Corporate company at it's finest. Only looking at bottom line with no regard to the negative impact this creates for it's employees and clients. Sad really....
