Pros

My time in service at AIG VALIC was fun, challenging and rewarding for the most part. The bulk of the employees were all smart and talented, making the day-to-day work enjoyable. The teamwork and camaraderie was always top-notch and I had an enjoyable career there.

Cons

I worked for AIG VALIC for nearly 20 years, but was laid off when my job functions were transferred to a 'different division of the company' (who happen to be based in India). I really didn't see it coming when I was notified of the lay-off. My performance had been on track, my work reliable and my projects were always on time and within budget. I've known many other long-term employees there who also lost their jobs in the same fashion. It seems a shame that a company like AIG (bailed out by the government with tax dollars) would now eliminate domestic jobs and outsource much of their IT operations overseas. Technically, since this division is owned by AIG, this is not viewed as 'off-shoring', but the end result is the same and it further damages our countries already strained economy.
