Pros

Big multinational company looks good on your cv. Challenging work but gives you good experience.

Cons

Management are terrible, manager appear to be have promoted due to length of time there or group they are in despite the fact that they have no skills to be managers. Your experience in this organisation will live or die due to who you have as a manager. I.T systems are completely out of date and cumbersome. All correspondence is done by email with no opportunity to build relationships and therefore everyhting takes an age to get done due to ted tape. Zero chance of progression.

Pros

Great Benefit package, great district support staff.

Cons

Income primarily based on sales of proprietary annuities to groups that are basically closed to sales promotion. Pay for Financial Planning and account maintenance non existent. VALIC is losing groups at an alarming rate as a result of trying to keep expensive profitable annuities as foundation of 403b business.

Pros

When you work at AIG, expect to start on Varsity. You work on large accounts and see risks you wouldn't normally see anywhere else, especially if you are relatively inexperienced. There is a lot of opportunity of you are willing to toe the company line.

Cons

The story of AIG is complicated. Like many other large publicly traded companies, bureaucracy is part of everyday life. Things don't happen quickly. Unfortunately AIG has had it rough the last 10 years. It takes forever for things to change for the better, most other change happens as a knee jerk reaction. The MOST common problem at AIG is investment in their people. While you can negotiate a good salary coming into the company, don't expect much afterward. Most employees haven't seen a raise for 5-7 years.
