A great place to start out

Pros

Great Co-workers, people are friendly (Depending which office you work in) and possibility to learn more. It is a good company to work for if you are out of college and need experience in the Insurance Industry. Learning new things is possible here. If you have a great manager, you can work from home as well. Of all the offices I traveled to, Atlanta office is the best in terms of friendliness, and NY office is the worst. I had great co-workers and some not so great.

Cons

Hard to switch positions within the company. They make it hard! Senior Management is not helpful (depending on the group). Always lying and never keeping promises. Pay is not good either. Health benefits are bad. And I don't see much diversity! Work life balance sucks because AIG is regaining success in all parts of the insurance industry, so people are required to work more! Bonus is not that great either. (I had bad management in my group).

Pros

Clusters of dedicated professional who can buffer the effects of bad management. The opportunity to take CE classes is available and in house computer technology is good.

Cons

Very political. Offering improvements to processes not encourage even when it clearly benefits the bottom line. Very much centered and geared towards relationships. If you know the right people you advance and are rewarded. If you work hard are profitable and very productive and don't know the right people you just are not compensated or promoted as readily or at all. Limited upward mobility if you are not in a clique or have a manager who appreciates your commitment and contributions.

Pros

The atmosphere and people working there are far less cutthroat than at other local financial institutions.

Cons

The pay for a first year analyst is a bit shallow.
