Pros

For the right projects, they are able to muster massive resources to get it done.

Cons

The sprawling organization can be difficult to navigate. Some managers have simply retired in place and have no interest in working with you to make positive change to the company.

Pros

Only for a paycheck. Sticking it out to hopefully qualify for what is left of the pension. There is minimal matching of stock for the 401K.

Cons

It is run like a serfdom. Those above a Technical director recieve grossly exaggerated complensation. There are still many political princedoms that grab the goodies for themselves. Our former CEO Ed Whitacre was voted the most overpaid and worst performing exective ever by the Wall St Journal. I was a contractor and working at ATT has degenerated into the same unstable job as that of a contractor. For the last few years any employees that have left or been forced to leave have not been replaced which has caused extreme overload for the majority of employees. Decisions by upper management are made based on metrics whenever possible to avoid responsibility for decisions. Or to avoid personal career risk. Downsides is fodder for a book. It is alarming to realize that there is no protection for retirees to force companies to honor promises made to them. The shifty upper managers are certain at some point in the future to discontinue promised benefits including health care. I do not consider them ethical.

Pros

Flexible working hours and management tried to keep employees after government contracts ended. Company 401K matching contributions were competitive.

Cons

Medical benefits were limited to a consumer drive high deductible plan, or a low quality HMO. Education benefits were limited to certain fields of study. Human resources and benefit information is hard to find among different websites. Too much reliance on technology to address HR needs.
