Pros

Great Benefits, good people for the most part, they try hard to stay current.

Cons

They are not willing to pay revenue share fees to the broker dealers therefore, you really do not have carte blanche when calling on advisors. It is like cold calling advisors and most of them have been burned by the 401(k) product and the service model in the past making a stressful job more stressful. The internal desk management is old fashion and inexperienced at selling the product. The external wholesalers are made up of a bunch of former Paychex wholesalers. Some of them have top-tier experience. Most of the externals have been with the company less than2 years, most have been hired this year. This team has turned over numerous times in the last 4 years, no continuity what-so-ever. There is no relationship management nor key account team for 401(k). The biggest selling agreements they have signed in the last few years are Primerica, Farmers Insurance and Allstate. These advisors do not know how to sell plans so as a wholesaler you are mandated to do everything for these advisors. Management promises the world and expects the wholesalers to deliver. Not a place to make money as an external or internal wholesaler. They really have no respect for the internals and this is an experienced team. Hardly any room for growth the jobs go to outsiders and people who are willing to yes management to death.

Pros

Big company in the industry. Good benefits as a perm but not a contract. They have lots of money to spend on projects. Generally people are professional in what they do.

Cons

Lack of communication. Overloaded. Tight timeline. Frequent overtime. Employees do not engaged to the company, it's just a job. Wasted lots of money on projects as well.

Good place to skate by on little work

Pros

The company is established overseas, this is one branch that is essentially required to make a certain percentage of profit a year, long as it does so, headquarters does not interfere. For that reason, all senior management are lifers, and have been there 10 years plus, so if you're goal is growth, you won't last long. Lower level employees get it the worst, however, if you are looking for a place where doing just enough to get by in middle management is what you need, this is the place.

Cons

Lack of senior leadership, the exec team feels like a circle that you can't get in on unless you are there for ever. A bit too French and snoby. No communication between departments leaves you lost in priorities. Feels like much of the exec team was promoted due to being there for a long time and lack basic knowledge in industry. Because they belong to a large corporationg they seem to think the need for innovation and development is very small. The Business Development team can acquire new business, but contracts are always low on staff and poorly priced. Of course salaries are as low as the rest of Montreal so make sure you negotiate.
