      The company is a great employer but the management is in the rut, not having farsightedness or business acumen.

      Pros

      Amex is employee-centric. The compensation is one of the best in the industry. Medical/insurance benefits are decent. Amex has a decent feedback mechanism through which the employees' voices are heard. More accountable to employees than most firms.

      Cons

      The management is highly susceptible to sycophancy. Your good work goes unnoticed several times. The employee PMP rating system is a joke. Those who have no leadership qualities are promoted to managerial positions. The management sweeps several issues under the carpet, sometimes blatantly.

      Virtual offices; benefits of large company; potential for advancement, esp if in a hub city

      Political; very much "this is the way we do it" mindset; doesn't integrate well

      Pros

      Overall great place to learn about and implement world class customer service. Blue box values are about integrity in business. Great opportunities for learning. They used to provide $5000 per year for employee education, maybe still do. Lots of empowerment for decision-making. Giving programs are established to benefit the greater community. Beautiful values.

      Cons

      Major drawback is politics that enable incompetent, lazy leaders to benefit from the system, promote their friends and hold back everyone else's growth. Another problem is lack of job security. Sweeping layoffs are followed by hiring at a lower pay rate.
