Bureaucratic approval processes and hierarchies, disconnect from ground reality, overspending on the unessential, more planning than execution, bad managers.

Amazing Work Let Down by the Leadership

Pros

You work on amazing causes and you can generate real profile for your work due to the reputation and global nature of the Amnesty International name.

Cons

The organisation has been through a major change process from a London-centric organisation to one which is trying to be globally distributed. The process is nearly complete but it has been has been poorly managed and implemented - resulting in a loss of morale and focus causing some of Amnesty's work to move backwards. It will recover, in time, but damage has been done. The Senior Leadership Team is isolated and lacking in quality. Most of them do not seem to have a real grip on human rights work and what is required of a global human rights organisation.
