Pros

Coworkers kept me there. Opportunities and respected in own department but not with organization.

Cons

Mission and values of St. Vincent hospital prior to Ascension coming in was good. Nuns presence made a difference. Respected among the community. It is obvious that Ascension leaders care more for green going into their pockets than patient care, patient safety, staff safety, technology and building maintenance. Physicians and nurses are not on same team, physicians rule the place and are the golden children. Leaders at Ascension corporate office in St. Louis are extremely disconnected with what clinical staff does every day, how much spare time clinical staff have and what staff in a hospital actually does. In addition, leaders, such as regional directors, don’t have qualifications or experience. Marketing isn’t keeping up, more Riley and IU Health ads and fundraisers around town than StV, Ascension or PMCH.

Pros

Regular paychecks, health/dental/vision insurance and set hours

Cons

Moderate pay, lack of promotional opportunities, negative culture, little to no recognition, little to no raises. Unfortunately all I see for the future of Ascension is greed. Patient care has declined significantly, employee culture is low and toxic. My workspace in administration has a very negative culture due to the competitive nature, no management is present and everyone is fighting each other for responsibilities to try and justify a raise. After more than 2 years of employment the only raise I received was .45 cents and I have willingly taken on a multitude of duties outside of my job description. The company has terrible environmental standards and does not promote recycling or proper waste management.

Pros

Benefits were ok. Discount on cafeteria food. Paid holidays.

Cons

Ascension values the ol'mighty dollar before anything else including patient care. Constant change in polices with no training to implement. Managers could be more helpful and understanding. Everyone gets the same 2% raise reguardless. Getting anything done with HR is nightmare. The company is too big. Your department will be more worried about money than providing patient care.
