Pros
Gained experience in the civil engineering industry and learned to deal with awful working conditions. Nothing will ever be this bad.
Cons
We worked a minimum of 10 hours per day. Arrived at the site office before 07:00 and allowed to leave earliest 17:00. We were forced to sign time sheets which showed that we worked 8 hours per day. If we wrote anything else it would be destroyed. No evidence to prove that we were working under illegal conditions. This went on for one year. The engineer's representative on site was rude, incompetent, sexist and abused his authority. More than 15 people occupied the on-site office and we shared a single toilet. The office was not large enough to accommodate everyone, therefore I worked in a caravan parked outside. In winter the temperature would drop to near-zero. No heating in the caravan. Shut up and work.
