Pros

The company is actively committed to each individuals professional development. They treat people fairly within reason - if you work, follow directions well and do your absolute best then you will have a great career here. The majority of your phone and internet are paid for you monthly, your personal and business gas are paid upfront and if you’re willing to listen with an open mind you’ll be given a lifetime of experience from great people.

Cons

It’s no different anywhere but for a few years I had a less than ideal boss. He started strong but slowly spiraled out of control over 4.5 years. You may find yourself with a leader you don’t particularly like or agree with but that’s no reason to quit usually. Don’t let that scare you about BAT or anywhere else, it happens. Great company overall.

Pros

- Promotions are easy if you excel at talking rather than your ability to do real work - many examples, myself included benefited from this culture. - I only left because I was offered a better compensation package elsewhere.

Cons

- Not for folks looking for meaningful personal and professional growth because quality of management has diminished in recent years. - Few local managers at senior level as there is a visible preference for foreigners, therefore limited career progression. Most locals end up at mid level for years before calling it quits.

Pros

Decent salary and non financial benefits.

Cons

Corporate political culture. You don’t need to know your work or work hard, you need to have good connections in order to succeed there. As the business itself doesn’t demand deep knowledge or discipline (at the end people need a good quality smoke at the good price and not fancy pack, new visual or new logo of the brand), hence marketing functions are really just about chitchat and connections, a lot of unnecessary meetings creating “visibility of work”, plenty of failed launches due to same approach. People are moved every couple of years, so they are not interested in creating something solid, they just need to show that they “worked” - launched something (be it a failed SKU or campaign that didn’t bring any new customers) in order to be moved further. Managers are not interested to grew new talents. No respect towards employees. No support for working mothers, in fact a lot of cases when women on maternity leave or that just returned from it were redundant. Poor work life balance. The list is endless, really.
