Pros

Management is great as they care about the employee's needs and concerns. The managers in my group have always looked out for me.

Cons

Long hours and travel is required but that is the nature of public accounting. I would have expected more third party technical training but most of the training is acquired on the job.

The people usually and the atmosphere most of the time. Our salary is competitive with the big four without killing the employees with work.

Cons

Layoffs a lot lately, slackers are rewarded. There is not a lot of communication on performance

Pros

There is a good work/life balance at BDO and it is encouraged by senior management. This isn't one of these firms where there is relentless pressure to bill hours (as a fomer attorney, I can appreciate this approach). Also, the work environment was collegial, I more or less got along with everyone I worked with.

Cons

Career advancement opportunities are limited. Maybe it's the division I worked in, but I felt the opportunities for advancement were lacking. I maybe being a bit too harsh, though, since our clients are all financial services companies and we all know how well they're doing. Also, in between assignments, there can be too much downtime. One can only do so much business development before it becomes ineffective.
