Barclays reviews

You have to play the game, rather than just be good at your job. There are so many people that you really have to work smart to stand out/avoid being a number. But everyone is kind and fair and so long as you work out how to play the game, the sky is the limit really. It can become quite stale with very little breadth to roles (i was there 6 years) but i enjoyed my time there and it has set my career up for the future - people really respect the name on your CV.

Too much bureaucracy and office politics get in the way of people actually getting work done. Morale is very low especially with the 'Bad Bank' announcement as people feel unsettled not knowing when they'll be next to be cut. Too much restructuring going on and the feeling is nothing at Barclays is ever stable. Lots of budget cuts and as a result hiring is also limited. Bonus and raise have been horrendous the last few of years. Only higher ups are getting bonuses which is not fair as it's the doers that get the job done, not management.
