      Pros

      Great pay and amazing people to work with. Many employee retreats and a lot of company lunches and happy hours.

      Cons

      Workload may be heavy at times and the bosses are strict. Also the location is hard to reach during rush house.

      Much less jerk factor Capable and smart colleagues all around Compensation generally in line with industry average

      Cons

      The brand isn't as big as the other premier banks like Goldman and JPM, so that affects the type work we do. It means more pitching by managing directors instead of live transactions, so more meaningless work for junior staff. Also feedback is never that helpful, rankings are very political, but that's true across all investment banks.

      I worked for a subsidiary of Barcap and had a reporting relationship up to Barcap. This review relates to that.

      Pros

      The compensation was good. At a high level - top of the house - they were savvy strategists. At the front line level workers were competent and cooperative. Mid and upper level management was lacking.

      Cons

      There was constant turnover and reorganization with Barcap. We'd establish relationships with technical team members only to find them terminated seemingly at random. Time after time. Our direct senior leader was ineffective, only concerned with political issues perhaps out of necessity since survival seemed to be hinged upon political alliances. Considerable dysfunction was the norm.
