Pros

Long lunches and they pay for your work shoes

Cons

This place is a mess. I was hired as a temp; during my interview I was told the company was taking in several new clients, they needed as many new people as possible to satisfy the growing need, and that I could quickly be hired on as a full Baxter employee. Afterwards I specifically remember my interviewer saying, "These are the reasons we're looking for as many candidates as possible, not because of turnover or anything." I was really excited to start, I had never worked in any medical field before but the descriptions of the job sounded challenging and interesting. I had also been told every few weeks there would overtime with double pay. These were all lies. There is a tremendous amount of turnover; other employees frequently spoke about leaving for a competitor. There was hardly any work at all. As a new hire I knew I had to observe and receive approval before being able to perform important tasks, but there was hardly anything to observe. Most days there would be a couple hours of work, then the option to either wipe trays for the rest of the shift or go home without pay. I understand that being trained during the slow season was so I could be prepared for when business picked up, but that time would vary from either the next month or towards the end of the year depending on who I spoke to. The actual work I had been looking forward to turned out to be menial and repetitive anyway. Most alarmingly though, the social environment is incredibly toxic. My first day on the floor, the two people I was supposed to observe got into a fight and left me stranded in a hallway with no idea what to do. Practically every time certain coworkers weren't around, others would not hesitate to complain or gossip about them. There were times when someone would express annoyance with me standing around observing, so I would try to help, only to have someone else come along and chastise me for not being approved to do so. It was incredibly uncomfortable, beyond the scope of just trying to adjust as a new person.

Pros

Can't think of a single pro for being a contractor at Baxter.

Cons

No PTO, contractors are told to not ask questions, no one has any real career ambitions here. Be prepared to be mistreated.

Pros

Good pay, vac/sick days & benefits

Cons

Micro management. Lower level employees have very hard time getting pay increases. Most people wouldn't complain about OT but it's mandatory, nonstop. Very little appreciation for low levels. Upper management won't listen to employees who actually do the work. Wouldn't recommend anymore.
