Pros

Free coffee, flexible timings, good amount of time for vacation.

Cons

I took the courage of being good and worked many after hours with the aim of getting a good year end bonus. In the mid year, I realized that my juniors were making higher salary than myself. Tried negotiating and when realized that nothing can be done now, I took extreme step of resigning immediately.

Pros

Great place to learn, well respected firm but do not expect a long term career there, shareholders are much more important than employees.

Cons

If you are a good politician you will succeed at BlackRock, if you are interested in putting your head down and working hard you are in the wrong place. You will continually see people promoted who kiss up and deliver zero value. If you have a contrasting point of view from management, don't speak up unless you are looking to be ostracized. Pay is terrible compared to the rest of the street, they are well aware of a strong perception outside the walls and won't think twice about reminding you that someone will take your seat if you don't want it.

Cut-throat financial firm

Pros

Best asset mgmt firm in the world. Huge firm with a lot of smart people.

Cons

A lot of politics in the office. Cut throat culture. The firm is 80% male and lacks female. People work hard and there is hardly any work life balance. Most people are 30-50 years old and don't have families and dedicate their life and soul to finance.
