Pros

Some editors are good. But this is not the norm.

Cons

Completely incompetent middle managers exploiting and kicking reporters to make themselves look good to their superiors in higher management who themselves are totally out of touch. Reporters work 7 days a week at all hours and are told they are not allowed to write but just to send raw material and bullet points to editors who will write. Vindictive and incompetent managers who thrive on putting reporters into a state of duresss and kicking them into the grass when they are burned out. Full of racism and inequality

Pros

Great benefits, and good work/life balance for most people (most have very little work to do and spend days in meetings and are able to leave at an early hour - a select few have a full plate). The Foundation does meaningful work. Bob hours (required and suggested volunteering opportunities) are really nice to have structure behind so that everyone chips in to help out.

Cons

VERY POLITICAL. The middle management and senior leadership have all been there for a prohibitively long time - I worked with some whom had never worked anywhere else in their 22+ year career. Although it is fantastic they have been able to move up the ladder, it also results in limited exposure and therefore stale ideas and archaic systems. It has also created hierarchy from politics vs skill. Some managers have been moved around to various teams, demoted over time but still empowered with some decision making that they are not qualified for due to this lack of exposure/experience. A coworker explained it as a place you do not go if you want to find a mentor or someone to aspire to in higher ranking. I will preface that I worked on the creative side and this is not what the company excels in. The creative and branding produced by LP studio is not portfolio-worthy in this field. They do have talented designers, but leadership is not qualified in creative focused output. The experience on the financial products side may be much stronger as this is what the company specializes in- I suggest checking Blind for insight. Be careful of political alliances internally as decisions will be made based on them vs efficiency or skills.

Pros

Bloomberg is one of the few news organizations that is still thriving in this day and age.

Cons

It's a huge company that often treats employees poorly. Let's just say that any time there's a conflict between your needs and the company's needs, it's obvious which will take precedence.
