Great legacy and leadership by many of its Directors and collaborators;. have made me and my work feel valued and appreciated; truly multicultural organization.

Cons

1. Some really bad middle managers resort to poor practices such as bad mouthing and gossip. 2. Some staff members are extremely reluctant to change and refuse to accept that the organization is much bigger than what it was in the past and that it needs a different style of management. 3. Some staff members are not willing to be held accountable.

Pros

CIMMYT focuses on admirable projects and goals. Staff are often very mission oriented, and working there because they believe in the cause. People really care.

Cons

It's easy to find a lot of time spent on general operations to try to comply with internal procedures and get follow-through from support units. People are well-meaning, but people also feel there's a "blame" culture (i.e., people are afraid to take responsibility for issues because of concerns about fallout by owning a problem). Also, most staff have too many responsibilities, and are constantly hurried.
