Dev Team is overworked and underappreciated

Pros

Despite erratic management on the dev team, somehow hiring (when I was there) was fantastic - the people you work with and collaborate with day-to-day are fantastic. I can't vouch for those left/newly hired - almost everyone I knew is gone within a 2 year period. The company does provide support for professional benefits, and you get quit a lot of time off throughout the year. If you've proven yourself, sometimes extended vacations with some remote work are approved.

Cons

High Turnover - especially for a small team! Most of those great folks I knew have left the company, so I can't vouch for those still there. Even some of the die-hard loyalists threw in the towel, driven away by too much work with too few resources. Management could be erratic - You were the Golden Child one day, a Red-Headed Stepchild the next for no cause. Internal processes are heavy and cumbersome - lots of processes to follow not because they add value, but because its already implemented, even if useless/counterproductive. Management continues to insist "We are Agile!"; an ironic claim at best - the actual process is an uncomfortable blend of CMMI and Agile, weighed down by legacy processes with little interest in actually implementing Best Practices. Complaints were filed, investigations opened multiple times against particular managers, yet despite the team coming out almost unanimously with a bevy of complaints and concerns (not to mention some scathing exit interviews), almost nothing was done (I believe some sort of short class). I have complaints on a personal note, but I don't feel they are necessarily relevant for others...

We appreciate this associate’s comments and praise for certain aspects of their employment during their tenure with us. We are very focused on retaining talent, but cannot predict outcomes especially when employees are sometimes called upon to sacrifice and give back during changes in our industry, client needs or growth. While change is sometimes difficult to experience, we have always tried to reward those employees who continue to deliver in such times. There are many different management styles and sometimes there may be perceived conflicts when employee and manager expectations or opinions differ. As noted, we have a system that allows for raising grievances in a safe environment so that employees can feel their opinions are heard and considered.

A very gloomy future for this one

Pros

None in the last couple of years

Cons

Too many to list, mostly related to very bad senior management. In general, the CTO is clueless, the CEO has not been actively involved for the last few years, the situation has gotten so bad that more than 12 people quit in 2012 alone. For a company of 50, I'd say that's a pretty good indication of where this company is headed. The previous review titled "Cannot Be Trusted" just shows how bad this company has gotten to be. Things like that happen often at Cachematrix. No accountability whatsoever, the CTO and the CIO can get away with almost anything. Let me tell you something about TPS reports .. Ok well not there yet but sure seems like this is going to be the next big thing for this company.

Thank you for taking the time to review your tenure at Cachematrix. While we would prefer if employees never left, we understand that in a dynamic industry like Financial Technology there is most likely going to be some turnover as employees are presented with new challenges and opportunities. We are confident the team we have in place is in it for the long haul.

Going from good to bad

Pros

The people are good and there seems to be a constant flow of projects. If you are good at your job, you can maintain good work-life balance. Things were much better a few years back and you see a lot of older employees.

Cons

Not much opportunities for career growth. Micromanagement and focus on processes rather than delivering quality products. Excessive cost cutting affecting employee morale. Not a fun place to work.
