It only takes a few bad apples...

Pros

Reputable firm Beautiful offices/location Good people aside from a handful of some very self-interested directors

Cons

My lackluster review of working for this company may have more to do with the politics, impersonal culture and limited opportunities I experienced on my team. I sensed that perhaps it was different on other teams and offices. However, because of the lack of comraderie or opportunities to work across teams, I will never know for sure. In my experience, this is a very top down organization (at least in the D.C. office) that only opens doors for those who are willing to put in their time stabbing backs and stepping on toes to get there. Everyone else just plugs along with their marching orders. Not a very innovative or exciting environment.

Pros

Just the things you need to know, you decide pro or con. Nice people Benefits are over the top, see next line before you get excited Low pay, total comp is well below industry standard Bonuses have been low for the past seven years Publicly traded and owned by arcadis Large turnover We closed a few offices last year

Cons

Design work is ok, not great Lots of management training, spreadsheets and controls - not a lot of design conversation Favoritism runs high Big raises go to those who threaten to leave, otherwise it’s likely just cost of living People who have been here a long time, talk about the past like my pop pop talks about the good old days.

I'm not sure what office you are in, but I invite you to reach out to HR/leadership to talk through any questions you might have. We are interested in your perspective and appreciate your feedback. To clarify a few of your points: we continuously benchmark our salaries/benefits against the industry and find we are at/above industry standards. All companies across all industries are experiencing turnover as we come out of the pandemic. We are not closing offices but making decisions that support our work from anywhere, and having excessive real estate is not good business. We are excited about our people and our future. Connect with us, and let’s work together.

Pros

Great location with a pretty view. Interesting people and (sometimes) cool projects. OK work/life balance. They throw a great Christmas party.

Cons

No transparency from senior leadership about bonuses, direction of company, etc. No room for growth unless if you're a beloved designer. Some bad apples among senior leadership -- rude directors with huge egos who could care less about your work. No pay raise in the 2 years worked here (and below average pay to start with). No real culture to speak of. Cliques especially in the retail design department. A general feeling of doom when working here.
