Pros

Pay and benefits were competitive

Cons

“Strategy” consists of 4 days of the CEO talking AT you about, no lie, how the discovery of electricity led to the invention of computers. Amazing insight from a bank that wants to think of itself as a tech company. Onboarding new hires is one size fits all. Stacked ranking performance reviews reward managers who can BS, and ICs who gate keep knowledge and pretend they work alone/the team doesn’t exist. 15% of workforce was mandated to be placed in Below Strong ranking and automatically put on performance improvement plans. This is a ploy used by leadership to fire massive amounts of employees without calling it a lay off. Teams were reorganized 3 times in less than a year of service. Remote employees treated poorly, preferential treatment given to those who commute to the office. Haphazard plan and no transparency for requiring RTO.

Not the Capital One everyone once knew

Pros

First and foremost, for those reading these reviews, be assured that any positive reviews of Capital One in the past 18 months are completely false and written by HR to inflate the perception. Joined C1 in 2002. Moved around to a few departments at times, which is one of the positives of working here. Decent pay for LCOL cities. Extensive educational resources for development.

Cons

Toxic culture. Toxic leadership. Re-org reasons are hidden to avoid associate turnover and then they do multiple layoffs to get rid of associates to keep numbers down. Favoritism leading to some associate promos that are unexplainable. Can’t get anything done due to red tape and demoralization of the entire associate population. The really great, servant leaders that Capital One was made up of and thrived with, have all left. Confirm yourself via LinkedIn.

Pros

Great benefits, lots of perks, lots of swag and random gifts, lots of team events and a very easy and brainless job. All you have to do is schedule meetings, color code the living life out of that calendar, otherwise you are not competent in C1’s eyes.

Cons

Working there with all the back stabbing people will have you doubting your intelligence and asking yourself if you are ever capable to getting anything done right because the gaslighting is real. They will tell you are doing great, not provide feedback and then in review time you will be blown away by all the lies the will make up to justify your low rating. Yes they do stack ranking and if you are not good at being fake, stabbing people in the back and being the “hey look at me I am so great” to leadership then you will not last long.
