Toxic Management and no accountability

Pros

Great payer (compensates for what is coming once you join)

Cons

Extremely toxic work culture with a very clique management. Most leaders have been in the organization for years and have grown internally. They have their own groups and they keep scratching each other’s backs. They hire people from outside calling them as “Professional Hire” and you are soon told that you need to adjust to the capital one way of working. Which is nothing but shut up and agree to your boss. Don’t challenge or even ask for work. Most teams have basic work but some teams just have no work and if asked they keep hiding behind management changes and pipeline reviews. Most toxic form of management appraisals where a group of people predetermine who to fire. What follows in PIP or your manager quoting that you don’t show enough initiative (which can’t ever be quantified by facts). Once the target is on your back they will ensure that they make your life miserable and ultimately fire you.

Pros

There are a lot of exciting projects to work on within the Company that have a wide variety of technologies that are used. If you possess the right skills, then Internal Mobility will be your best friend if you want to explore different areas within the Company. Compensation is pretty good for the industry, and there are quite a few events throughout the year to show employee appreciation (if you are able to make it them).

Cons

The stack ranking process during the mid-year and end-of-year reviews has caused a lot of anxiety amongst employees. Doing everything that is expected of you on a day-to-day basis is simply not enough, and you will get low ratings if you do make sure that you go above and beyond on everything, and there is a huge emphasis on getting "face time" with upper management. If you find yourself if an office where there isn't a lot of upper management, you will find this to be a very difficult to task. Many teams are also very overworked. Although there have been numerous times that employee surveys have indicated lack of trust in leadership and feeling burnt out, nothing happens aside from them saying "we will work on it" and giving us a free lunch.

Pros

Great offices, great co-workers and good food options

Cons

Management is awful, they have stop hiring all these clueless leaders. and stop hiring leaders from Amazon, they are bringing their toxic amazon culture to Capital One. Performance management has been getting worse over the last 3 years. They are always changing the bar without any real feedback. forced PIPs for bs reasons like not doing enough presentations... really?
