Pros

-Decent Tech Stack. Everything is AWS based -Work with very smart people -Benefits are some of the best I've seen outside of Government

Cons

- Toxic work culture created by stack based ranking performance reviews. Managers keep lists of other teams/individuals screw ups during the year and use it during performance reviews. You could have a team of 8 rock star engineers but because of stack ranking, one has to be fired every year. -Nothing gets done unless something is on fire or escalation. -Performance review criteria constantly changing and benchmarks for roles are hidden. -Secret layoffs. Co Workers suddenly disappear and management doesn't talk about it. - The internal hiring process is broken. The workday job reqs don't actually reflect anything the positions entail. The only way to find a new job internally is networking during corporate happy hours.

Pros

They have good benefits for health care.

Cons

The performance evaluation has changed so that more people will get needs improvement when their performance is a strong. Managers are being forced to put people on needs improvement because a certain percentage have to be put on NI. What was a strong is now considered a needs improvement. The company is getting rid of those who have been there long time and older people. But throw in a few younger people so they can't be sued like before. They lost the older age discrimination case so they make sure they are using loopholes now. CapOne pretends to care about employees but they don't. Just a way to placate people so they get good reviews. Also on the review process you are evaluated against all people at your level who do totally different jobs. Comparing apples, oranges, watermelons, melons, etc all against each other. Your review is not just doing a good job you now have to do extracurricular activities and even volunteer outside the company. Watch out for favoritism! Some mgrs don't show favoritism but most do play favorites and this also affects promotions and evaluations. I have worked for the co over 20 years and for the past several years things have gotten extremely worse.

Pros

Great pay and benefits. PTO is only tracked if your manager requests you to enter it into Workday.

Cons

In my short time with CapOne, I’ve seen thousands of employees get laid off or PIP’d out. These were hard working, smart employees, who were let go because of their title, their lack of making it on to the “favorites” list or because they didn’t have a manager who supported them. Many associates recently had to reapply for their jobs so they would have the “product” title. Well, only 15% of these associates passed the Power Day interviews and many of these employees have been with the company 10+ years (some even 20). These are associated who never had a bad review, yet tossed aside like absolute garbage. Don’t even get me started with the stacked ranking performance reviews. Associates who are supposed to navigate the absolute disaster created by these layoffs, only to be PIP’d out because they ask questions (which is seen as a weakness). I joined this company because of its culture and values, but all I’ve seen is a lack of human decency and a toxic Amazon culture taking over. Remote employees can’t even move within the company any longer, as PM’s must work within a physical office to even be considered. Do not waste your time here. The money isn’t worth it.
