Pros

Caterpillar is a very diverse company with international opportunities. CAT encourages movement within the company to keep employees satisfied and continually learning. They have a great rotational development program for engineers that rotates you through 4 different business units. This allows you to see how the different units each contribute to the company and may introduce you to a part of the business you would like to explore once your commitment to your home unit is completed.

Cons

Most of CAT's operations are in the midwest which is not my ideal living environment. It gets cold in the winter and still manages to get hot in the summer.

Pros

Peoria "was" my home town.

Cons

Caterpillars management is still based on the idea that Peoria is a captive market, Cat is the only game in town. That is how the strikes in the '80s began, corporate beligerance towards it hourly employees combined with market forces. When management employees were made to work in the factories in the '92 time frame, I worked in the factory as well, the CEO was heard saying he would like to replace all of the factory workers. He had no working relationship with the people making Caterpillar great, it is a shame. Upper Management at Caterpillar have lost touch with the working people and they have lost touch with the ideals and values of the solid Midwest companies. Caterpillar worships General Electric these days. Jim Owens is on the economic advisement board with Obama and General Electric.

Pros

Well this was a good place to work I enjoyed it. The pay was good and the environment was friendly. I was let go due to the current economic situation. I would like to go back if things turn around. Overall I would say that this is a great company!

Cons

Peoria is not a great place to live. Well being let go was a huge downfall. I guess that I feel that more planing could have been done to save jobs. Overall I don't have to many complaints about working at caterpillar and would definitely accept a job again if I was offered.
