Pros

Work life balance and compensation are excellent. Caterpillar really cares about its people and is always looking for ways to communicate and show they care. Career growth opportunities are abundant and everyone has the ability to explore new career options outside of their past experience.

Cons

Size of the Enterprise can be difficult to get things done at times. Politics can also be a problem, as it is at any employer of this side. At times, those with experience outside of Caterpillar are not fully leveraged and "status quo" decision making can be an issue. However, the recent reorganization should help improve this situation.

Pros

There are a lot of opportunities to work in diifferent areas. They are also focusing more on work life balance and have experimented with flexible work hours, compressed work week and the ability to work from home. The people who work at Caterpillar are extraordinary to work with and teamwork is very evident.

Cons

The "Good Old Boy" network still exists in some areas, in that people advance based on a core group of men who have worked together and are very successful. They are in a position to advance people. Senior Management is extremely male dominated and over 50 years of age. Because of this, most major decisions are extremely conservative and slows the company down.

Pros

Stable, high tech company that is a bit conservative in its business model. However, the company has taken an active stance to plan for the downward portions of a business cycle (the trough) where it can still be profitable. The company has good common business sense for the long haul. Consequently, Caterpillar is a world leader for heavy machinery and manufacturing.

Cons

Wall streat considers Cat to be a cyclic company. This may be the market we work in, but Caterpillar is on the leading edge of technology.
