Pros

Pleasant co-workers, very casual dress code (Phoenix, AZ location)

Cons

I used to not only love my work at Chubb, I was proud to work for them because of their integrity and corporate mindset. Then we were bought out by ACE insurance and everything has changed. They may have kept the Chubb name but it's just a veneer over the ACE mindset. They have taken away the pension and reduced other benefits while increasing the cost to employees. They have changed the yearly review system to the extent that employees feel completely unappreciated, even if they are very high achievers. The underwriting dept has been told to write anyone for anything, no matter how risky or inappropriate. Employee groups for diversity have been banished. Morale is low and getting lower. And the CEO is a narcissistic "leader" who doesn't want to mingle with the little people. I expect both serious downturn in customer service (excellent customer serving is what Chubb was known for) and a mass exodus of experienced employees. I used to recommend Chubb to folks looking for work in any dept, at any level. No more.

Not to be trusted....

Pros

Some sincere and talented leaders. Visionary CEO. Strong corporate anthem even in spite of the recent merger. Opportunity to grow if you are supported by key people in the organization. Decent pay and rewards.

Cons

Expectations are ridiculously high. You are lead to believe there is loyalty for hard work but there is none. High achievements are not enough. You have to be attractive, non political, keep your opinions to yourself and not rock the boat or try to influence change unless it is a key leaders agenda. Talent Management is a popularity contest. Promotions are elusive and given out more to keep the competition from poaching. No one can be trusted. The glass ceiling is firmly in place.

Pros

I was an employee at Chubb for six years prior to the ACE acquisition. It was not perfect, but it offered very good work-life balance, interesting work, leaders who cared about their employees and a legacy of excellent customer service.

Cons

The ACE acquisition completely changed the culture, morale and stress level for the worst. The best leaders were let go and many of the worst were retained and even promoted. ACE had a notoriously employee-unfriendly culture and high stress levels. For some reason, they are proud of this. There was no attempt to try to bring the best of Chubb and the best of ACE together. It was let's get rid of anything good at Chubb and keep all the bad qualities of ACE. I left. I have no regrets about it.
