Stockholm syndrome...

Pros

After many many years I came to liken working at Chubb to the above mentioned Stockholm Syndrome, to develop a sympathy with ones captors. The people for the most part are great, I believe that because the type of person required to survive the environment that Chubb presents, must be a very special person. Apart from the great people, there is nothing special.

Cons

A three year battle with stage 4 cancer did not kill me, not my spirit, nor break my body, but working at Chubb did get me very close. If you are in the market for textbook examples of how to destroy a once great company from the inside out then Chubb is your place. It breaks my heart actually, what has become of the company that I used to imagine myself retiring in, I have since moved on to a competitor and I can say that this time I will never ever return, life is just too short.

Haste makes waste

Pros

Chubb was a phenomenal company prior to the merger. The level of inclusion and diversity was top notch. I cannot speak for what it will be post merger as my job was eliminated.

Cons

The speed with which decisions were made just prior to and after the merger was unrealistic. Leadership did not appropriately evaluate talent. Most decisions were made based on third party information and many employees did not even have the opportunity to "interview" or share their qualifications with decision makers. Significant talent was lost. A significant lack of leadership at the VP level was evident. Especially prepping employees for next steps, what to anticipate and creating opportunities for employees to get in front of the decisions makers face to face. There was evidence of favoritism at that level.

Pros

Solid benefits, pretty flexible schedule, nice office. Life appears nice if you are at the top. Work here for 2-3 years if you are out of college and learn as much as you can, and then start looking elsewhere. The people are truly great here, but trust nobody.

Cons

High turnover, most employees are just a number, culture varies by office, & pay is below average. Senior management sets high plan expectations because if the departments hit them, that is money in their pocket - The bonus $ that is passed on to Underwriters is a joke for the amount of business they bind. Not much room to grow here unless you put 5+ years in. Good 'ole boys club at the top that is all behind closed doors.
