Pros

Good compensation (both salary and benefits), exposure to new technologies (everything continuously changes) opportunity to move to different roles (given the breadth of products and number of organizations, there are continuous opportunities for change). Depending on your manager - and out of 7 managers, I've only had 1 bad manager - you are given a goal and allowed to achieve that goal.

Cons

It has become a big company with a lot of overhead and process. Some process is good, but as it grows and evolves the process gets in the way of getting the job done. At corporate there is too much politics. When I started at Cisco, there was a feeling we were a conglomerate of start-ups. That feeling is gone. I've only had one manager who severely over committed the available resources making my life miserable.

Pros

Finally they have some good products and it's nice to work for a leader. You have the ability to learn new technology's, to be part of the a world wide virtual team. You have the ability to learn new stuff, to work in a motivated team and to be part of this culture.

Cons

There is NO work-life balance! Of course, they saying that you take your private time, but they give you workload up to 60-70 hours per week. Where is there the work-life balance or at least the possibility? The management is just thinking from quarter to quarter. Just number are important, nothing else. Ethic exist just at the paper. For the salary there is downwards trend. Meanwhile there are trying to remove all the benefits. They are just selling the future, a lot of the products are not ready or poor. Meanwhile the company is to large for fast moves. Overall: I can't recommend this company if the family is important for you.

Pros

Excellent personal growth opportunities (business and technological), some of the best independent contributors around. Good benefits, competitive salaries. Senior Mgmt (below Chambers above SSED/OD) are generally good people from a business leadership standpoint, tho there are definitely a number of stuffed suits there as well. Business Units vary greatly, from completely out of touch with the real world, to deeply involved with the day to day business and concerned with client satisfaction and support of the field. Overall if you can tolerate a significant amount of politics, and are capable of working on your own with minimal supervision and direction, Cisco is a great place to work that provides a excellent benefits package, competitive pay, and excellent growth opportunities in business and technology alike.

Cons

Bloated, self important middle management (not all - there were certainly some excellent folks in the middle as well) more concerned with politics and self promotion than anything else. An enormous amount of internal meetings. Practically everything is outsourced so customer service is a joke, particularly for partners. Getting things done, even within the system can be incredibly difficult. The employee review process is a joke, and thoroughly painful to anyone who is more interested in doing there job than promoting themselves on a daily basis.
