Pros

For now, we're one of the few I-banks left, and we're quite committed to surviving. Citi is a large firm with over 350,000 employees, so your happiness will depend on which group you work in. I work across many of the businesses in a support function and find the folks here in general to be smart and helpful.

Cons

I've heard that comp is usually on the low end compared to the Street. But there's not much Street left now, so...... Compensation will vary dramatically depending on location. New York City pays in commiseration with the cost of living. The same position in other areas will vary.

Pros

Very fast paced work environment, able to learn different things, whether within one group, job posting to other groups, or involuntary reorgs.

Cons

Senior mgmt decision making process very "shoot from the hip"; constantly changing priorities mainly due to indecision; extremely political environment; extremely difficult to advance with constant hiring of outsiders into senior positions.

Pros

The benefits. They are very generous with their dental plan and fairly so with their education reimbursement. My manager was also quite flexible with giving time off when requested. However, she was more of the exception than the norm. Because of the size of the company, you get to meet a lot of people and network.

Cons

It is a very large company and it is very easy to "get lost in the system". This often means that it is possible to be passed over for promotions and advancement. They do not hesitate to lay off their employees either. Often employees hear through the media before they are told by their management. Even managers who have been with the company for 20+ years are laid off without notice. It may just be the culture.
