Pros

The days off (3 in a row), and the fact the pay was decent, the actual techs where a joy to work with also.

Cons

I was working at Dish Network from 2006 through 2009, and for the most part I actually liked the company and the management. I was let go in 2009 over a MVR (Motor Vehicle Record) , I was informed by the Gm at the time that they where very sad to have to let me go... I understood i was the one who had received the ticket, but when my record was clear that they would put me first on there list for a hire back so i waited and waited until my record cleared and finally i received a call from the recruiter stating that I had an Interview with them...and I informed the Installation manager that i had a interview with him and it was on a Tuesday, well I was so excited about the opportunity to be able to interview with them and happy cause the economy is rough and I really needed the job the day before my interview I received another call from the recruiter the day before saying that the job was filled and that I would be first in line for the next on, when i asked the recruiter if she talked to the IM she told me that he was the one who canceled the interview after knowing I needed the job and was the most experienced tech in all the interviews I now work for Directv whom are always true to there word .

Pros

Good job to use as a stepping-stone when it comes to learning a new trade as an installation tech. But only as a stepping-stone. Get out and away from this company ASAP.

Cons

1- Corporate management that is either stupid beyond belief or sadistic beyond belief. 2-As a tech, you are held accountable for connecting systems to the internet even if the customer doesn't have an internet connection. 3-Being held responsible for equipment failure. For example, if the hard-drive on a DVR receiver goes bad within 12 days of being installed (refered to as Trouble-Call 12s), it's your fault according to corporate metrics. 4- An unbelievably stupid routing system known as ETA direct which will at times give techs over 18 hours of work and expect them to have it done in less than 12 hours. 5- Field Service Managers (not all) who will make you install a system even though there is NO chance due to trees that the signal will last the entire 2 years of the contract that you are suppose to have the customer sign. This is usually done by a FSM under pressure to increase completion percentage or by an unscrupulous FSM brown-nosing for promotion. I could go on and on, but I'll stop there.

Pros

Great opportunities to make extra money when you need it working overtime. Paid holidays, vacation and sick time.

Cons

Impossible to move up unless you know the secret handshake, bonuses are unattainable, rules are enforced depending on who likes you and the color of your skin. Shift changes at the drop of a hat, sometimes less than 24 hours before the change, required to take verbal abuse from insane customers. Management threatens your job regularly. Scheduling vacations are a nightmare due to shift changes and limited availability, which if an emergency comes up you have to take a hit to your attendance.Insurance is a joke. Unethical sales tactics.
